Tesla Shuts Down Dojo Supercomputer Team Amid Talent Exodus
Tesla has disbanded the team developing its custom Dojo supercomputer, originally designed to train AI models for autonomous vehicles and robotics. The move follows the departure of Dojo head Peter Bannon and key engineers, many of whom left to form AI startup DensityAI. Tesla will now rely more heavily on partners Nvidia and AMD for compute, and Samsung for future chip development. The decision marks a shift away from Tesla’s in-house AI training ambitions, even as it rolls out robotaxi pilot programs in the U.S.
This setback raises concerns about Tesla’s ability to stay competitive in the AI-powered transportation space.
