SpaceX seeks approval to launch 1 million solar-powered satellite data centers
SpaceX has filed a request with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to deploy up to 1 million low Earth orbit satellites equipped with solar-powered data centers. The proposed constellation would utilize laser-based inter-satellite links for communication and be capable of processing and storing data off-planet. SpaceX describes the effort as a foundational step toward building a Type II Kardashev civilization, capable of harnessing the full energy of the Sun.
If approved, this audacious plan could redefine global cloud infrastructure and accelerate space-based computing innovation.
