Google given 14 days to overhaul Android app store practices following Epic antitrust victory
Google has confirmed it must comply within two weeks with a U.S. court order stemming from Epic Games’ antitrust lawsuit. The mandated changes prohibit Google from forcing Play Store developers to use its billing system or restrict linking to outside payment options. It must also stop offering exclusive deals for preinstalling Google apps and is required to allow app developers to set their own pricing freely. Although full implementation of rival app store support may take until 2026, these immediate remedies aim to increase competition in the Android ecosystem.
This ruling marks a major shift in mobile platform control, signaling stronger antitrust enforcement and greater freedoms for app developers.
