Tesla begins testing fully driverless robotaxis in Austin
Tesla has started testing its autonomous robotaxis in Austin without a safety driver onboard. This represents a significant milestone in the development of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology. Previously, Tesla included safety monitors in all public test vehicles. The shift signals growing internal confidence in the system’s capabilities. The pilot program remains limited and isn’t yet available to the general public.
This move intensifies Tesla’s competition with Waymo and Cruise in the race to commercialize autonomous ride services.
