iRobot files for bankruptcy after failed Amazon deal
iRobot, the maker of the Roomba vacuum, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after 35 years in business. The company will be acquired by its contract manufacturer, China-based Picea Robotics. This follows the collapse of its $1.7 billion Amazon acquisition due to European regulators blocking the deal over competition concerns. iRobot says its services and product support will continue without disruption as it restructures under new ownership.
The fall of iRobot marks a major turning point for consumer robotics, highlighting the challenges of scaling hardware businesses without strong platform backing.
