UK Regulators to Permit Retail Access to Crypto ETNs From October
The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced it will allow retail investors to trade crypto exchange-traded notes (cETNs) starting October 2025. These instruments must be listed on UK exchanges approved by the FCA and comply with financial promotion and Consumer Duty requirements. This marks a reversal of the 2020 retail ban on crypto derivatives and ETNs, reflecting a more nuanced regulatory stance.
This decision opens up regulated crypto market exposure to a broader investor base in the UK and signals growing institutional acceptance of digital assets.
