China unveils brain-like AI supercomputer with over 2 billion artificial neurons
Researchers at Zhejiang University have revealed the Darwin Monkey, the world’s first computer built with over 2 billion artificial neurons designed to mimic the architecture of a primate brain. Named after Charles Darwin and inspired by the macaque cortex, this system marks a milestone in neuromorphic engineering. The goal is to develop brain-inspired computing capable of executing AI tasks with significantly higher energy efficiency and adaptability than conventional models. The Darwin Monkey applies spiking neural networks and could drive a new generation of AI closer to human-like reasoning and perception.
A groundbreaking step for neuromorphic computing that brings us closer to human-level AI capabilities.
