Google expands AI-driven age verification across US accounts
Google is rolling out AI age estimation across U.S. accounts to detect and limit access for users under 18. Initially launched on YouTube, the system now analyzes search activity and video preferences to apply child safety measures. These include disabling personalized ads, limiting content, turning off Timeline in Maps, and restricting app access on the Play Store. Misidentified users can verify their age using government ID or a selfie. The feature will begin with a small user group and gradually expand.
This move reflects growing global pressure on tech firms to enhance online safety for minors through stricter age verification.
