Microsoft begins Xbox age verification rollout in UK under new Online Safety Act
Microsoft has started prompting Xbox users in the UK to verify their age, aligning with the country’s new Online Safety Act requirements. Players over 18 must confirm their age using methods like ID scans or facial recognition via partner Yoti. While currently optional, age verification will become mandatory in early 2026 to access features like messaging and game invites. Microsoft says similar systems may roll out in other countries, with region-specific implementations expected.
This marks a significant step toward more regulated digital spaces and highlights the gaming industry’s adaptation to evolving online safety legislation.
